Product information
Natural elements have always been the main source of inspiration for curio’s product lines. For the Pulp Critter collection in particular, the designs are influenced by animals which are closely connected to generations of Vietnamese people.
The animal is crafted using Giang pulp, a traditional material made by the H’Mong community in Hoa Binh, Vietnam. Made from the fibres of the native Giang bamboo, the material is prepared through a handmade process of boiling, soaking, beating, and drying. For generations, the H’Mong people have used this material to produce handmade paper.
curio’s design ideas are brought to life by artist Nguyen Xuan Luc using Giang pulp and traditional lacquer techniques. Each animal is decorated with patterns inspired by Hàng Trống folk paintings, a traditional form of Vietnamese folk art. These familiar motifs are reinterpreted on the simple forms of the animals, creating a connection between traditional Vietnamese culture and curio’s contemporary design language.
