Product information
Nature has always been at the heart of curio’s creative journey, inspiring both ours design language and the stories behind each collection. In our papier-mâché animal series, we draws from familiar creatures found in Vietnamese life and culture, reimagining them as decorative objects rich in symbolism.
Each character reflects timeless wishes for strength, good fortune, prosperity, and protection. More than decorative accents, they are created to bring a sense of positivity into the home, celebrating meaningful beginnings and the hope for a life filled with abundance and peace.
The animal is crafted using Giang pulp, a traditional material made by the H’Mong community in Hoa Binh, Vietnam. Made from the fibres of the native Giang bamboo, the material is prepared through a handmade process of boiling, soaking, beating, and drying. For generations, the H’Mong people have used this material to produce handmade paper.
Each design begins with curio’s original concept and is handcrafted by lacquer artist Nguyen Xuan Luc.
Crafting stages:
Giang paper pulp is blended with fine clay to improve its strength and moldability. The form is then shaped entirely by hand before undergoing a meticulous series, including smoothing, priming, multiple layers of lacquer, hand-painting, and repeated polishing.
