Product information

In curio’s creative world, animals are not limited by their instinct shapes or colors. Each collection explores new combinations of forms, colors, and materials, giving every piece its own character and bringing it to life beyond the familiar images found in nature.

curio’s pulp animals! As the name suggests, Giang paper pulp is the main material used to create these pieces. It is a traditional material of the H’Mông people in Hòa Bình, made from a type of large bamboo locally known as Giang. The bamboo is boiled, soaked in water, pounded into pulp, and dried. For generations, the H’Mông people have used this material to make handmade paper.

curio’s design ideas are brought to life by artist Nguyen Xuan Luc using Giang pulp and traditional lacquer techniques. Combining local materials with the artist’s craftsmanship, these animal figures feature lively shapes and can be enjoyed as artistic decorative pieces or special gifts.

Crafting stages:
Giang pulp is blended with fine clay to improve its strength and moldability. The form is then shaped entirely by hand before undergoing a meticulous series, including smoothing, priming, multiple layers of lacquer, hand-painting, and repeated polishing. Through this time-intensive process, the lacquer gradually develops its characteristic depth, resulting in the products with interesting details.
